Did you grab your coat and your hat?

Let’s take a little stroll down the Sunny Side. My name is Sunny, and with my background as a costume and set designer as well as jazz musician in a big band, I decided since 2016 to focus completely on making vintage style clothing for men.  My designs are based on original 1920s, 1930s and 1940s patterns I have collected over the years, or that I have reconstructed after originals. Together with Stefitex in Romania we produce top quality items with an eye for detail and the focus on material. It results in a collection that is till growing, based on iconic items that can be mixed and matched with your true vintage clothing or with modern pieces.

About On the Sunny Side

The materials are carefully sourced and picked by myself.  I collect all the fabrics, buttons and zippers, and ship them to Romania. I buy fabrics from different sources; newly produced if possible with eco label but I also use overproduction meters. In this way, I can be sure that all the fabrics are of excellent quality. After all, I have seen and felt them all beforehand, tested them before processing and washing. For the buttons I regularly use vintage NOS (new old stock) buttons. All buttons are of the quality brand YKK.

At this point I have customers all over the world.  A certain amount of my clients buy for theater or film, then there are people who enjoy dressing in vintage style, some even live that way, or dress up for an event like a picnic and dance, lawn party, tweed ride or swing dance.  These days many young people like to wear three-piece suits with a vintage inspired cut. TV series like Peaky Blinders contributed to that without a doubt.

Sustainability

On the Sunny Side clothing stock products are made in the EU by Stefitex in Romania, a small factory run by miss Diana Duna. All products are made for a decent living wage and in good conditions. Because of the highly detailed products we have to work closely together to make sure we get the details and quality the brand stands for. All designs are made by Sunny van Zijst, as are the first samples and patterns.

We use only top quality materials, all sourced by myself in the EU. Often they are end of line meters, or rest meters from over production. That allows me to use only the best and be sustainable at the same time. I prefer pure materials, wool, linen, bio cotton. Sometimes they are mixed with Viscose which is a celluloid plant based material, often known as rayon.  The buttons I use are left over vintage new old stock buttons. I find many of them at wholesalers in a back room or in a box under the counter. Often they are made with better materials, and look better. Making only high quality small series and not being bothered by fashion and trend, adds up to sustainability. They are timeless pieces, that can be real staples in a wardrobe
